- The existing airport of Ahmedabad has emerged as one with the highest annual growth in traffic and will get saturated much before the year 2020.
- The expansion of Ahmedabad airport is difficult due to various reasons.
- Under the circumstances, a new international airport is required to cater the future traffic.
Dholera International Airport key Features:
- The airport is strategically located amongst the big cities of the state like Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara, Anand, etc. while also connecting several international air routes.
- A total of 1426 hectares of Government land has been allotted for developing World’s biggest Airport at Navagam Village, in Ahmedabad District.
- The measurement & demarcation of the site is carried out by the District Inspector of Land Records.
- Dholera International Airport would have two runways of 2910m and 4000m with parallel taxiways.
- Airport Authority of India has prepared the Feasibility Report, Detailed Project Report & EIA
- Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has also submitted a Detail Project Survey Independently.
Based on AAI DPR, DIACL has received the following approvals:
- No Objection for construction of an International Airport from Ministry of Defence (MoD)
- Site Clearance for the project from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA)
- Environment Clearance for the Project from Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change. (MoEF)
- In-Principle Approval from Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA)
- The project will be developed in PPP Model adhering to the guidelines of the Greenfield Airport Policy of the Government of India.
- DMICDC is having an equity stake in DIACL.
- Stone pegs are placed on 182 peripheral boundary points.
- DIACL has already floated RFQ cum RFP through DMICDC for selection of transaction advisor to develop Dholera International Airport.
